Research Abstract

In the groups of selected members, we discussed about the organization of this research project, communication of each member and the future prospects of this project two times per year.
In this year, we summarized the project of Body-plan which had done from 1997 to 2000. In our projects for 4 years, we have published a lot of papers in the top journals such as Nature, Science, Cell, and so on. Through these papers, we could level up and cleared the works of body plan of vertebrate. In this project, we had two groups. One is the function of signal molecules, and another is the analysis of morphogenetic genes group. The former group found a lot of new signal transduction molecules such as nodal 5, 6, Ms, stef genes. The close talk of the TGF-ヲツ, Notch signaling, FGF, BMP, Wnt were also clarified by our members. The group of morphogenetic genes also revealed the function of Hoxa-13, Pax 6, Sox2, Pho family genes. The communication of two groups were well done. Throughout these project, we could advance indeed the establishment of embryonic body plane and understand well the relationship between signal molecules and morphogenetic genes in the total of the cells, cell to cell interaction and organism as a whole. In the groups of selected members, we think about these groups (signal molecules group and morphogenetic gene group) could function very well as above described.
