Research Abstract

Our research is focused on the Mikyozo Collection of Ninna-ji, Kyoto. The collection consists of nearly 20,000 items of Buddhist books and documents. The results of research are as follows :
1. The Mikyozo Collection is one of the largest collections of Buddhist books possesed by Shingon-Sect temples in Japan.
2. Each book or document has been properly classified and has been appropriatly preserved, this classification is considered to be conducted in the 18th century.
3. About 20% of the books and documents of the Mikyozo Collection are written or printed in the Kamakura era (the 13th century and the 1st half of the 14th century) .
4. The number of the books and documents in the Mikyozo Collection has been constantly increased since the 18th century. We assume that there has been the intention of storing up the Mikyozo Collection, Collection of books and documents possessed or written by the prince monks of Ninna-ji.
