Research Abstract |
This study was designed to investigate the tendency of the recent development of preschool children's motor ability and make the new national standard. A battery of motor ability test (Tokyo Univ. of Educe. Method and. new three events) was administered to 12,815 pre8chool children, 8514 boys and 6274 girls, from 3 to 6 years old all over the country The events of Tokyo U.E.Method was consist of 25m run, softball throw, dipping endurance, standing long jump, consecutive jumps with both feet, and new three events were ball catch, shuttle run, and tennis ball throv. The new five grades national standards of motor ability have been made on the bases of percentile rank. It was found that the present performances (1997) were showed significantly lower than 1986's performances in all events, all age groups, and both sexes. These results showed that there is marked decline in the motor ability of preschool children during past 10 years. The reasonable high correlation coefficients were found between 25m run and shuttle run, softball throw and tennis ball throw. This showed that those two events substitute each other.
