Research Abstract

The present project aims to consider how the Japanese ethnic sports experienced acculturation for this one century. Then the ethnic sports, which are held annually as the regional folkloristic events, were selected.
As the outcomes, following four tendencies of the acculturation were abstracted.
1. Tourism tendency, which means that the ethnic sports became to be used to encourage the regional economics.
2. Tendency that a local government became to hold the ethnic sports in place of former traditional informal social groups.
3. Simplification tendency.
4. Tendency to organize the no game-like events into the competitive ones.
