Research Abstract |
This project is to develop several databases for the huge historical documents in the oriental studies and to study effective method for providing the database on the Internet. The research results are as follows ; (a) In the historical documents related with Okinawa/Ryukyu area, the following databases are developed. "Rekidai Hoan" 1st & 2nd collections, full text database (about 1,600 documents) "Ryukyu Sangyoseido Shiryo"(The document of industrial history in Ryukyu), full text database(about 2,200 documents) "Computer concordance to the Ryukyu Sangyoseido Shiryo"(Draft version), 8 vols. "Ryukyu Kafu", full text & image database, about 3,000 documents. "Ryukyu Hyojyosyo Monjyo", full text & image database, about 8,000 documents. (b) In the historical documents in Edo period, the following databases are developed. "Osaka Matifure", full text database(SGML form), about 4,700 documents. "DANJURO for Syumon Aratametyo", full text & image database, about 50,000. "Nippon Keizaishi Shiryo"(The Documents of Japanese Economic History), image database, about 630 documents, 20,000 images c Studies on an extended Kanji character definition and its retrieval system using WWW are developed. (d) "Collection of Ryukyu Historical Documents : Microfilm Version" and its providing system using WWW server (MIRS ; Microfilm Image Retrieval System) has been developed. The system is serviced in the feature of digital library in Media Center, Osaka City Univ. (e) In studies on character recognition for the historical documents, segmentation and recognition of numerical characters are carried out.
