Research Abstract |
Selection of a rangefinder, examination of its measuring condition and accuracy, development of automatic extraction method of the facial landmarks from the data, and establishment of a evaluation method for facial morphology using the facial landmarks were respectively necessary for the development of a surgical navigator. 1. Selection of a rangefinder, examination of its measuring condition and accuracy As the measuring time of the rangefinder selected in this research was within 1 second and its measuring error was within 0.4%, its performance satisfied the requirement of the operation navigator. And, it was proven that the reproducibility of measurement was satisfactory, if the range finder was made to be located in certain range from the face plane without the standard photographing. However, as the machine weight was 8kg and there was a problem in order to move or set over the operating table, some restriction was applied to photographing direction and method. 2. matic extraction method of the facial landmarks from the data The extraction of the facial landmarks as an important function of the navigator has been carried out until now by the manual operation. In this study, we thought that the automatic operation was indispensable for smooth operation of the navigator, and tried to realize it. Since the coordinate system setting and exact definition of the landmarks have not been made, it was difficult to accurately extract them until now. Then, we realized semiautomatic extraction of the landmarks with minimum manual operation by setting coordinate system on the face, making numerical definition of the landmarks, and setting field of view. At present, though it had not come to the perfect automation, it was succeeded in the development of the semi-automatic system in which the operation time drastically decreases. 3. Establishment of a evaluation method for facial morphology using the facial landmarks We measured facial forms of infants' faces which were the objects of primary cheiloplasty and developed its evaluation method. Getting cooperation of the Ikeda health center, we measured facial forms of the infants who visit there for 3 months examination by the range finder as a control. And, facial forms of infants with cleft lip were measured in preoperative, postoperative, and the change was examined. As the result, it became possible that features of facial forms in cleft lip infants were quantitatively shown. Less
