Research Abstract |
As indicated in the title of project, this study tries to make a preliminary Survey on the medieval sermon sources and to make a handy finding-list of the medieval sermon sources for use of Japanese medievalists but it required more time than I had expected and is still in progress. Report of Research Results is, therefore, no more than a interim report of my study but it, divided in two parts, provides useful informations for Japanese medievalists in two aspects ; 1. The first part, 'Beyond the Written Word, ' though it is a case study on the preaching in the Fifteenth Florence, gives in the second chapter a general view on the types and nature of medieval sermon sources which will be a useful introduction to the problem. 2. In the second part are translated various kinds of medieval sermons : model sermons, exempla, distinctiones, artes predicandi etc.. Comparing them with the second chapter of the first part one will be able to have a clear image of medieval preaching.
