| Research Abstract |
Several environmental factors have been reported to induce autoimmune diseases, e.g. progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS) in the patients with silicosis. Previously we reported the superantigenicity of silicate to human lymphocytes in vtro, and the modulation of TcR V beta repertoires ( especially increased V beta repertoire) in the patients with silicosis.
In this study, we observed the elevated serum sFas levels by ELISA in silicosis patients who had no clinical symptoms of autoImmune diseases. Elevated mRNA level of sFas was also detected using RT-PCR compared with that of membranous (mFas) levels.
In addition, we analysed the association of autoantibodies and HLA class II, and we observed that the association of HLA-DQBl*O4O2 aflele with the antitopoisomerase I autoantibody response in Japanese silicosis patients.
