Research Abstract |
The research was performed to test the hypothesis that gastrin Indirectly stimulates the proliferation of gastric epithelial cells through the increased production of Reg protein by entero chromaff in likecells (ECL cells) . For this purpose, in vivo and in vitro studies were done on rats as an experimental model. The chronic and acute elevation of plasma gastrin concentration in rats remarkably dugmented the Reg mRNA and Reg protein contents in gastric ECL cell. This effect of gastrin was almost completely blocked by the administration of a gastrin receptor antagonist. When the gene expression of Reg was stimulated, the profile ration of gastric epithelial cell in gland neck proliferation zone was also stimulated. Recombinant reg protein, when added in the cell culture of rat gastric proliferating epithelial cells, dose-dependently stimulated the proliferation of the cells. These data clearly showed that gastrin stimulates the gastric epithelial proliferation through the increased production of Reg protein by ECL cells.
