Research Abstract

Patients who have a deformity caused with head and neck diseases. These deformities are treated with reconstruction surgey. Autogenous bone, muscle, skin and nerve are used as reliable biomaterials. In fact, the developments of useful biomaterials have been progress and these are many biomaterials for clinic.
At this time, I projected the research for basic study for production of artificial nerve system to use for peripheral nerve defects. First of all, Schwann cells that come from rats' sciatic nerve were cultured and rats' trigeminal ganglions were cultured on freeze-melt treatment Schwann cells' sheets. In the results with the cultured on fibroblast cells' sheets as a controls, trigeminal ganglions were lived on Schwann cells' sheets with the methods of histological and immunhistochemical technique.
These results suggested that Schwann cells have an influence for nerve regeneration. It is useful for production of artificial nerve system to use for peripheral nerve defects.
