Research Abstract |
We have developed a new system which implements a Mental Cutting Test (MCT) on a micro-computer network. By using a computer network, we can obtain data regarding each subject's response time on each of the MCT problems, which are difficult to obtain in a usual paper-pencil test. We administered the MCT to more than 740 students at The University of Tokyo and Fukuoka University, and performed factor analysis on response time and multiple regression analysis on total scores and response time. The principal results are as follows : (1) Although there was no significant correlation between total response time and scores, high score students spent more time in solving "quantity" problems than low score students, while high score students spent less time in solving "pattern" problems than low score students. (2) The results of factor analysis on response time showed that two factors, i.e., mage-making process", and "analytical-thinking process", affected response time. (3) The results of cluster analysis and correlation analysis on scores indicated that there was close correlation between image-making ability and analytical-thinking ability.
