| Research Abstract |
ボルネオ産のコガネムシ科Scarabaeidaeの亜科、族および属のキ-を作成し出版した。この論文の中でコガネムシ上科Scarabaeoideaのうちボルネオから記録されているLucanidae,Passalidae,Ceratocanthidae,Bolboceratidae,Hybosolidae,Ochodaeidae,Aphodiidae,Scarabaeidaeおよび食葉群Pleurosticti各科のキ-を作成した。この研究においてコガネムシ上科の過半数の科の形態学的特徴が再検討されたことになる。これによって今後の世界のコガネムシ上科の科の形態学的再検討のおおよその基本方針が明らかとなってきた。
コガネムシ上科のうちLucanidae,PassalidaeおよびMelolonthidaeの日本産11種についてミトコンドリアのCOI遺伝子の439bpについて塩基配列を決定した。これにもとづく予備的な系統解析の結果、COI遺伝子は進化速度がかなり早く種内個体群間あるいは属内種間の解析には有用だが、属間あるいは科間の分岐関係を解析するには不適当という結論をえた。今後、読み取る部分を長くして進化速度が相対的に遅いことが確認された第1および第2塩基だけをつかって解析するか、12Sおよび16S rRNA遺伝子のようなもっと進化速度の遅い遺伝子を利用してみる必要があることが明かとなった。
さらに、上記の形態と分子に基づくコガネムシ上科の比較研究に加えて、Scarabaeidae、PassalidaeおよびLucanidaeについて、食性や生息場所について自然史科学的研究をおこない出版した。
