| Research Abstract |
k-1次元射影空間内のn点集合の配置空間X(k,n)は今世紀初頭多くの代数幾何学者によって不変式論としてまたある種の代数多様体のモジュライ空間として研究された。それらは複素代数幾何的研究であった。
研究代表者達は配置空間X(k,n)が実数上で定義されていることに着目して(k,n)=(2,5)と(2,6)の場合に「実部」X(k,n)_Rに複素双曲幾何構造の「実部」としての実双曲幾何構造が入る場合のあることを発見した。またX(k,n)_Rの組合わせ位相的研究を通じて配置空間の研究を進展させた。
具体的には、n=5またはn=6として、X(2,n)のモジュラー理解
X(2,n)≡B_<n-3>/Γ
(ここでB_<n-3>は複素n-3次元超球,ΓはB_<n-3>に働く数論的部分群)の「実部」のモジュラー理解
X(2,n)_<R3>≡B^R_<n-3>/Γ_R
(ここでBR_<n-3>は実n-3次元超球即ち実双曲空間、Γ_R=Γ∩PGN(n-2,R))が成り立つことを発見した。
これらの事実は多くの専門家を驚かせ不思議がらせたが、どうしてこういうことが起こるのか真の理由は未だよく分かってない。
