Research Abstract	今年度は昨年度の夏に観測運転を開始したレーザー干渉計TAMA300の感度と安定度を向上させるための改良や調整を継続的に行うとともに、高感度での観測運転をこれまでにない長時間実施した。具体的な成果は、 1.100Hzから10kHzにわたる広い周波数帯で重力波に対する感度が1年間に約2桁向上し、これまでの世界最高感度を抜き、世界最高性能の重力波検出用レーザー干渉計となった。 2.感度を制限している要因が低周波域では地面振動、その上の周波数帯ではミラーの姿勢制御系の雑音によるもの、最も高感度の周波数帯では散乱光による干渉計の位相雑音、それより高周波数域はレーザー光源の周波数雑音であることから、それぞれの対策を講じた。大きな感度向上は主として、ミラーの姿勢制御雑音を低減したことと、散乱光の影響を軽減したことにより達成された。 3.安定度も各部のドリフト対策や制御系の最適化によって向上し、平成12年夏の2週間の観測運転では、13時間近い連続運転や1日23時間以上の運転を実現し、167時間の観測データを取得した。 4.この観測で、干渉計のさまざまな動作環境のモニターも試み、干渉計の不安定動作や非定常なふるまいの原因を探求して、部分的ではあるが相関のある原因が発見された。 5.その後、外来振動レベルの大きい時間帯でも安定に運転できるように能動防振系を追加するとともに、姿勢制御に影響するミラーの揺れ自体を抑えるために懸架系の改良を行って、年度末には改良された干渉計による昼夜連続1週間の観測運転を試行した。 6.取得された観測データの解析も進行中で、予備的な解析によると我々の銀河系の中心で連星中性子星の衝突・合体が発生した場合、S/Nが30以上で検出できる感度であった。
