Research Abstract

本年度は、本調査研究の最終年度にあたる。昨年度は、南天のオーストラリア、ハワイ、北京の各天文台で観測を実施し、軽元素であるリチウムの同位体比の銀河系円盤内での分布及び重元素の金属欠乏星における組成比を求めるデータを取得した。今年度は引き続き、オーストラリアとハワイの各天文台での観測を行った。データ解析を行い軽元素のリチウムの同位体比の銀河系円盤内での分布を導き出した。また、ハワイのケック10m望遠鏡を用いて金属欠乏星における重元素の組成比を求め結果をまとめつつある。
まだ最終的な結果は得られていないが、予備的な結果によれば金属欠乏の時代、すなわち宇宙初期に形成された星(金属欠乏星)における元素の組成比の分布は場所による個性を残し、一様でないことが窺え、以下の特徴あることがわかってきた。
1)重元素、とくにr-過程元素の組成は金属量が[Fe/H]<-2.5以下で観測誤差以上にデータのばらつきが大きく単純な傾向で表せない。初期の大質量星の個々の超新星爆発の影響を強く受けていることが示唆される。
2)軽元素の組成についても宇宙初期のままだとする考え方が見直され、観測的にもより金属の少ない、すなわち古い時代にさかのぼることによって元素組成の傾向が見え始めてきた。
3)古い星では炭素、酸素、窒素が意外に多いことがわかってきた。これはまだ説明されておらず、データを増やして明らかにする必要がある。
4)QSOの金属吸収線の観測により宇宙初期の銀河や銀河間ガスにおける組成も出され、星での元素合成と比較されるようになった。
本調査研究の最終年度にあたり、国内外の研究組織をなす研究者を中心に以上のような研究のまとめと8mすばる望遠鏡を用いた観測研究の方向についての提言を行なった。8mすばる望遠鏡を用いた観測として以下のようなまとめがなされた。
1)軽元素、とくにリチウムとベリリウムについて[Fe/H]<-3の金属欠乏星を観測し、宇宙初期での振る舞いをあきらかにする。これによって、宇宙の重要なパラメータ(密度パラメータなど)に制限を加える。
2)1)と同様の星を観測し、αー、rー、sー、過程による重元素の振る舞いを調べその星の種族や運動との関連を明らかにする。
3)重元素のうち、ストロンチウムやヨーロピウムの振る舞いは理論的に予言されており、理論と比較することにより、星の内部における元素合成過程を明らかにする。
4)炭素、酸素、窒素が古い星に意外に多い。これをより金属量の少ない星にまでのばしその原因を明らかににする。
5)QSOの金属吸収線を解析し、宇宙初期の元素組成を明らかにして星の化学進化と比較する。
