Research Abstract	スーパーコンピュータを単に高速計算を行う道具として捕えるのでなく、処理速度の向上に加えて、頭脳の機能をコンピュータに取り入れることにより、処理の方法に柔軟性を持たせたコンピュータの設計を目的とした設計思想の研究に主眼を置いてきた。そして、頭脳の構造の検討を通してその機能を実現するヒントを得たことにより、旧来よりもさらに進んだ頭脳に近い脳構造化スーパーコンピュータの概念設計を作り上げてきた。さらに、そのような脳構造化スーパーコンピュータを基本設計から詳細設計へと進めて、具現化していくにおいて、左脳の機能を実現する設計とその実装に向けてのリアルなシミュレーションを行うためのシミュレータを作成した。その結果、あたかも左脳の動きが可視化されることがごとく、処理の内容が動きと共に明確に観察できるようになった。このことは、大変意義ある研究成果であると考えられる。また、右脳機能を実現するためのコンピュータグラフィックスや、ボリュームレンダリングの研究では、高速・高精度可視化のためのアルゴリズムの研究・開発を行った。その結果、右脳の機能を機会の上に柔軟に、かつ高速に実現することが出来たことは、重要な成果である。加えて、左脳機能と右脳機能を自然に統合する具体的方式を考えてきた。そして、いずれの機能においても、処理速度をかなり上昇させる必要があることの結論を得て、コンピュータのプログラムに含まれる命令レベル並列性を最大限に利用するためのキャッシュに関わる研究と投機的命令実行に関する研究を積極的に行った。その結果、左脳と右脳そのものの構造と言うより、むしろコンピュータ固有の構造的開発により、機能的に納得の行く結果が得られた。このことは重要な知見である。
