| Research Abstract |
本研究では、「発見とは何か」という問いを立てた上で、広く、歴史的、社会的側面をも考慮しながら、発見について多面的な考察を行った。理工学の分野の研究者と文科系の哲学者が共同で研究を行うという日本においてまれな試みを実行した。特に、発見において決定的に重要な役割を果たすと考えられる言語および論理は、理工学、哲学いずれの分野においても重要な研究対象であり、文系、理系の境界をこえて共同研究をおこなったことは意義深い。今年度に特に研究をおこなったのは、野矢氏による根源的規約主義にもとづく検討と、斎藤氏による数学におけるパラダイム変換の理論に基づく検討である。これらを通じて、(機械でない)人手による発見について、そのプロセス、その意義、発見そのものについての洞察等を深め、別掲の論文において発表を行うことができた。
このほかに、各研究分担者による個別の研究もおこない、判断に関する論理的分析をMartin-Lofの判断論に基づいておこなった研究、科学的理論の形成と発見過程についての研究、セレンディピティーによる科学的発見の分析、論証の発見を問題解決と結びつけた研究などの成果を得た。一方で、このような演繹的な立場を直接的に発見に役立てる試みとして、情報科学の領域に属する研究分担者が、等式の求解方法、モデル検査を用いたアルゴリズムの発見手法の提案、古典論理の証明からの計算の発見、などの成果を得た。これらは、発見の本質を完全に明らかにしたとは言えないが、将来の知識発見の論理の構築に向けての重要な足がかりを与えたと考えられる。
