Research Abstract |
The major objectives of this project are : 1)to integrate spatial methods that have been fragmentarily developed in human and social sciences (in particular economics, human geography and archeology), and develop general tools of spatial information science. 2)to develop the spatial data infrastructural systems that widely support researchers who are carrying out studies related to spatial information science. Through the six year effort of this project, we have established the following fruitful outcomes. 1)We collected and constructed spatial data that are commonly used in human and social sciences, and have established the spatial database in which the spatial data are ready-to-use for researches. 2)We have established the spatial data clearing house by which we can easily search spatial data in the spatial database developed in the above, and we are running it with the Center for Spatial Information Science at the University of Tokyo. http://chouse.csis.u-tokyo.ac.jp/gcat/editQuery.do 3)We have established the spatial data sharing system that is widely shared with researchers in Japan, and we are running it with the Center for Spatial Information Science at the University of Tokyo. http://www.csis.u-tokyo.ac.jp/japanese_2004/research_activities/joint-research.html 4)We have established the web-search system, called FreeSAT, that searches spatial methods that are used for studies in human and social sciences via the Internet. http://okabe.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/okabelab/atsu/freesat/freesat-index.html 5)We have established free-use toolboxes (software), called SANET and SAINF, that provide spatial methods commonly used in human and social sciences. The toolboxes are used more than fifty researches all over the world in one year. http://okabe.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/okabelab/atsu/sanet/sanet-index.html 6)We have signed a contract with a well-known publisher in the GIS field (CRC-Taylor & Francis) to publish a book whose contents are the studies done in this project.
