Research Abstract	幅3nmのアームチェア型の端をもつカーボンナノリボンを製作した。LEEDの回折像には、ナノリボンを示す楕円型の回折斑点が出現し、フォノンスペクトルには1.3nmの狭い幅を反映した離散的なフォノンバンドが出現した。また、アームチェアー端に局在したエッジフォノンが、TOフォノンとTAフォノン間のギャップ内に出現した。活性炭素繊維、ダイヤモンドナノ粒子の熱処理により得られるナノグラファイトを用いて調べ、次の結果を得た。3次元乱雑ナノグラファイトネットワークを構成する活性炭素繊維の磁性がエッジ状態に起因する。熱処理によりナノグラファイト間相互作用を増加させると、絶縁体から金属に転移する。絶縁体・金属転移近傍では、スピングラス的挙動が見られる。水、その他のゲスト分子を活性炭素繊維中のマイクロポアネットワークに物理吸着させると、ナノグラファイトの磁気モーメントが減少する。このことは、ナノグラフェン間にゲスト分子からの実行圧がかかることで理解される。グラアァイトリボン接合系の量子輸送について調べ、この系のコンダクタンスが、接合部分での端の形状に大きく依存する事を示した。また、欠陥を持つナノチューブの電気伝導特性を調べ、磁場中のコンダクタンスに特異なスケーリング則を見出した。これに加え、ふっ素化グラファイトの電子状態計算を行い、ふっ素化がナノスケール炭素系のE^^<^>β^2電子物性制御の一手段として有効である事を示した。ナノグラファイトにおいてエッジ状態を発現するzigzag端を、ヘテロ系であるh-BNおよびBNC-3元系に対する境界条件として課し、その電子状態を局所密度近似の範囲で詳細に調べた。BNリボンは半導体であるが、エッジ状態と同様なπ電子局在状態を示した。グラファイトリボンとBNリボンがzigzag端を介して接合したBNCx系では、CドメインとBNドメインそれぞれのエッジ状態に由来する新規な界面局在状態(ボーダー状態)が現われた。
