Research Abstract	本研究では1)1ナノメータ程度の極微少物質を寸法を揃えて安定に単離する手法を確立し、2)その寸法に依存する特異な物性を明らかにし、3)これを基本単位とした巨視的な大きさの物質を組み上げて新しい電子的機能を有する材料の創出を試みることを目的とした。初(平成10)年度ではその第一ステップとして、CdS等のII-VI族半導体、CeO2等の金属酸化物のナノメータ粒子を溶液法で作製し、界面活性剤で安定化させる技術を開発した。得られた試料を各種フィルター或いは液体クロマトグラフでサイズ選別することに成功した。次年度ではこの手法を用いて直径が1 10ナノメータの粒子を各サイズに選別して光学測定を行い、基礎吸収端が短波長側に移動することによる量子閉じこめ効果を確認した。 3年度においてはCdSナノ粒子の集合体について光電気化学効果を調べた。その結果、この集合体が硫化水素水溶液を光分解して効率よく水素を発生することがわかった。これにより公害物質を分解してクリーンエネルギーを得る新しい光触媒機能がナノ粒子集合体において見出された。最終年度ではCdSeの安定なマイクロクラスター(CdSe)33と(CdSe)34の合成と単離及び結晶化に成功した。この結果は、これまでのC60のように元素のみに限られていた安定なマイクロクラスターの種類が化合物にまで一気に広げられたことを意味し、本研究の最大の成果である。高性能の光触媒効果も確認されている。
