Research Abstract	本研究は,昨年度7月東京工業大学において開催したワークショップ「Cone-manifolds and hyperbolic geometry」を起点としている.当時までの関連研究をまとめ,双曲錐構造の変形論の魅力と威力を深く再確認する機会となったこのワークショップでは,Dehn手術理論の幾何学的理解という課題に話題が集中した.それを大きな刺激と捉え,今年度はとくに3次元多様体のトポロジーの研究への応用に重点をおき,ゲージ理論,写像類群,崩壊理論,クライン群論,量子不変量などとの有機的結び付きを重視した研究を,研究打ち合わせ,研究集会などを通し広く展開した. とくに本年度6月には伊豆長岡で「Penner による普遍タイヒミュラー空間の理論とその周辺」と題する研究会を開催,リーマン面の研究と3次元トポロジーとの結び付きの深さを再考する機会とし,講演の予稿資料を冊子として印刷し研究資料として関連機関および研究者に配布した.また1月には研究集会「3次元多様体の幾何的トポロジー」を東京工業大学で開催し,錐多様体の変形理論を含めた幾何的手法による3次元多様体論の過去2年間の研究成果を総括し,研究の進むべき方向を模索した. ここ数年一つの多様体が許容する様々な側面の相互の結び付き,あるいは相互作用を見いだす研究が進み,3次元多様体の幾何構造に関わる研究も新たな段階に入っている.こうした現状にあって,本研究は個性の表現がますます複雑に絡む将来に向け,背後にある数理的原理を幾何的手法で探るための重要な課題を明確にできたと考えている.
