Research Abstract |
To level up people's athletic capabilities, how talented athletes should be found has so far been discussed in many studies, not always finding any useful clues and indicators. One of the reasons seems to lie in the fact that younger-day top athletes' typical factors including the physical strength, capacity for locomotion, and form are measured but future-active world-level athletes were, in many cases, actually not leading players in their younger days. It is, therefore, considered important to first identify the reality by focusing not only leading junior athletes but also children at large. Hence, this study set out a questionnaire, asking sports instructors for school children as well as sports researchers and clinical doctors throughout Japan about the status of sports training for those at their stage of school children which falls on an early period of their younger days. In addition, survey was also conducted of opinions about a national convention to be held for those in thei

r school children days so that a desirable direction of their sports training might be found in this study. As a result, some organizations were known to give long-hour training to children, who attended many games each year, possibly loading them with considerably heavy mental and physical burdens. It was also suggested that there was a wide gap between school children's actual sports activities and the state of training considered desirable by sports researchers and clinical doctors throughout Japan. On the other hand, instructors also tended to understand a conceptually desirable form of training. From these results, it was considered important to create an environment where those in their school children days could experience many events , not limited to a single one. As for the holding of a national convention, it was found that only those instructors who had sent children to such a convention before mostly favored it while nearly half of instructors having no such experience as well as researchers favored but the other half of those did not, and many of clinical doctors were against it. This study found many think that a national convention, if held for those at their stage of school children, will cause overheated training to result in a win for win's sake though it motivates their sports activities. It must further be reviewed from an objective and scientific standpoint how sports training and a national convention should be for school children. Less
