Research Abstract	統計的推測理論は、K.ピアソン、R.Aフィッシャーの先駆的業績以来100年を経て、その基本的枠組みはほとんど完成している。しかしそのほかになお、従来の理論の枠組みの中には十分入らない問題、あるいはまだ十分解明されていないタイプの問題もあり、その中にはいまや成熟期に入っている数理統計学に新しい方向を切り開く可能性を含むものもあると思われる。この研究の目的はそのような問題を探り、そこから新しい理論を作り出すことを目的としている。今年はどのような領域に、未開拓の理論的にも、応用上にも、将来性のある問題領域が残されているかを調べることを目ざした。具体的に取り上げられた問題は、1.モデル選択、2.統計的予測、3.離散モデル、4.非正則時系列などであり、とくに1についてはAICを中心とするモデル選択に関する書物のシリーズが刊行され始めたことをきっかけとして、それらの本を取り上げて問題を論じた(共同研究者の一人柴田里程はそのうちの一冊を書くことになっている)。また離散モデルについて竹内-赤平は離散分布に大偏差値近似の理論を応用して若干の成果を得た。その他いくつかの問題について討論研究会を開き、毎回十数名の参加を得て、情報、アイデアの交換を行い、有益であった。なおこの研究は3年の計画であり、当年度は第一年度であるので、より具体的な成果は次年度以降に発表する予定である。
