Research Abstract

This project was aimed at development of system of analytical tools to evaluate the urban heat environment for design of environmentally sound city. Data from urban geographic information system (GIS) was combined with the analysis of anthropogenic heat discharge from buildings, and the obtained three-dimensional distribution of heat discharge was used for meso-scale analysis or urban heat environment.
Original GIS polygon data of all buildings in Tokyo was reformed to numerical data suitable for urban heat analysis. Building air-conditioning model (DOE-2) was rearranged to provide heat discharge value. The model was applied to typical buildings because heat discharge depends on purpose of building use and building size. The obtained heat discharge value per floor area was combined with building data to obtain spatial distribution of heat discharge throughout Tokyo area.
Several scenarios for discharging the anthropogenic heat such as discharging all heat from roof, from ground, or discharge as latent heat were set up. These scenarios provide various heat discharge distribution in three dimensional scale. Meso-scale meteorological simulation was conducted to which anthropogenic heat discharge was input.
Potential of utilization of treated sewage for cooling water of air-conditioning was estimated using GIS.Combination of direct use as cooling water and indirect use as supplement water for cooling tower is effective way of use of treated sewage from the viewpoint of spatial distribution of heat discharge.
