Research Abstract |
鳥類では、雄がZZの性染色体を有しており、雌がZWの性染色体を有している。従って、精子はZ性染色体を常に有し、W性染色体を有する卵と受精すると雌が生まれ、Z性染色体を有する卵と受精すると雄が生まれるため、雌の卵子によって性が決定される。ニワトリ初期胚にアロマターゼインヒビターを投与することにより、本来雌になるニワトリが雄に性転換し、精巣を持つことを確認した。その精巣の中にはZと共にWの性染色体を有する精子が約50%存在することをFISH法を用いて確認した。そして、このW精子が受精能を有しているかを検討するために、卵細胞質内精子注入法(ICSI)を用いてハムスター卵子に性転換したニワトリの精子を注入し検討した。ICSIを用いて48個のハムスター卵子に精子を注入した結果、注入後24時間のハムスター卵子の生存率は92%であり、68%が前核形成像を示した。以上の結果から、W精子が受精能を有している可能性を示した。そして、将来Z精子からW精子が分離できW精子のみを用いて受精させれば、雌だけが生まれるように雌雄の産み分けが出来る可能性を示唆した。
