Research Abstract

New type of self-bearing motor has been developed. It has both functions of rotary motor and magnetic bearing. In this research, self-bearing motor is applied to the rotary blood pump. Axial type self-bearing motor has the merit of using one control degree and is simple. However, it requires long shaft. Radial rype one can control two redial axies actively. But the flat pump is developed easily.
First twelve pole disc motor was designed to the heart pump which produced enough HQ characteristics for the heart pump. But it is a quite big. Next the outer rotor design is fabricated which is quite small for implantation. Finally the motor design is renewed to give the high efficiency. This pump is quite good for blood pump.
Axial motor is also adopted to the centrifugal pump which can use the wide side area of the rotary pump. Hence it has the merit of wide airgap which is better for blood pump searing.
Self-sensing is also investigated. Differential transformer type one is considered adequate for blood pump. But we could not use in the practical pump due to its low reliability. Further work is continuing to improve both heart pump and self-sensing technique.
