Research Abstract |
Spray pyrolysis was improved by some novel ideas to realize microstructural design of fine powders. Ammine complexes of some metal species were used as precursors to control various reactions which took place in the solution droplets. Zinc Oxide particles prepared from ammonium hydroxide solutions of zinc carbonate had spherical balloon-like morphologies. The size of the particles and the shell thickness were markedly changed by addition of nitrate irons to the solutions. Zinc oxide-silver and zinc oxide-palladium composite particles were successfully produced from the same precursor solutions that contained Ag or Pd ammine complex ions. The metals turned into nano-sized grains that dispersed uniformly on the surface of zinc oxide balloon particles. Sol of some oxides were also used as the precursor solutions. Highly porous titanium dioxide particles and oxidesilver composite particles with unique microstructures were prepared from optimized solution compositions and process conditions.
