Research Abstract |
(1)Relationship between water channel genes and chilling tolerance : Three water channel genes (rwc1, rwc2 and rwc3) has been isolted from cDNA library of chilling sensitive rice variety, Wasetoitsu. The rwc3 is specific expressed in rice roots and has functionally water absorption into roots under chilling condition.. when chilling tolerant rice seedlings was chilled, rwc3 was expressed and rice seedlings were not died ; however, chilling tolerant rice seedlings were died and rwc3 was disappeared when the seedlings were treated with caffeine which was calcium channel blocker. These results suggest closed relationship between expression of water channel genes and rice chilling tolerance. (2)Another analysis : Promoter sequence (4 kbp) of rwc3 was analysied. The unique sequences were found in this sequence. To analysis promoter function under induction of chilling tolerance, the repoter gene, GUS, was connected under rwc3 promoter and introduced in rice cells by particle gun.
