Research Abstract |
It was reported that the pressure pain threshold (PPT) of masticatory muscle is use for in the diagnosis of muscle disorders. The difference between right and left sides of involved muscles was objectively judged. However, it could not determine the abnormal site because personal sensitivity to pain could not be measured. It was reported that the PPT of the styloid process gave a sign of personal sensitivity to pain. In this study, the styloid process site was added to the original masticatory muscle measurement sites, described in the previous report. The reference interval of each site was determined. Fifty-one volunteers (20 age) without muscle pain were used. Further, normal subjects and CMD patients (30, 40 age) were measured using the PPT measuring system. PPT of normal subjects were within the reference interval. However, PPT of CMD patients were without the reference interval.
