Research Abstract

Although a lot of CAI software has been developed recently, there does not seem to be so much CAI software with which we can learn engineering subjects with great interest. Game software, on the other hand, in greatly attractive not only for children but also for adults. Players become absorbed in a game to clear the last stage. Such a goal to win seems to be necessary in CAI software, too. For this reason, We chose actual experiments to motivate learners. Experimental education was incorporated into the conventional instruction system that had previously been developed for control engineering. We suggest using remotely operated experiments because the experimental equipment cannot be manipulated by the users individually.
This study is performed in the following four steps. (I) The procedures of remotely operated experiments are investigated. They consist of (I) Transfer of controller parameters to server PC, (ii) Executing operation of control experiments and (iii) Monitor of control experiments, which is performed by users at a distance from server PC and experimental equipment. (II) Two methods to realize the procedures (I) and (ii) are proposed. The procedure (iii) is realized by utilizing TV meeting system software obtainable at stores. (III) The program for swing-up control of the inverted pendulum is developed to accomplish the automatic operation of experiments. (IV) By using the proposed system, the remotely operated experiment is performed to evaluated the effectiveness. (231 words)
