| Research Abstract |
本研究は14世紀末に東アングリアのKing′s Lynnに現れた市井の神秘家Margery Kempeの口述写本The Bookof Margery Kempeを研究し、Margeryの黙想に表出した宗教的、世俗的imageryを文学的、図像学的背景から検証し、Margeryが照らしだす神秘的霊性と民間信仰の諸相を論考するものである。
本年度は、構成上の一貫性が欠如していると指摘されているMargeryの黙想の流れを再考した。その結果、マリア崇敬を軸に黙想が展開し、The Bookが一貫した構造をもっていることがわかった。研究内容は論文として出版予定である。‘The Role of the Virgin Mary and the Structure of Meditation in the Book of MargeryKempe'The Medieva1 Mystica1 Tradition:Eng1and,Ireland,Wales,ed.Marion Glasscoe(Cambridge:D.S.Brewer,1999)
さらに、Margeryの神秘的霊性を多角的に分析するには、説教、宗教詩、教会典礼などの文学表現と教会建築や写本の挿し絵などに表された図像による視覚表現を検証しなければならない。Margeryの生きた時代を復元し、The Bookの中に表れた様々なイメージがどのような図像学的、文化的コンテクストと連動しているかを考察するため、15世紀の写本、時祷書Exeter Cathedral Library,3549 G,Horae B.V.M.l ff.1〜36v Hours of BVMof the use of(Sarum)の研究を行っている。
