Research Abstract

Recently, environmental pollution due to endocrine disruptors such as dioxin and bis-phenol A is becoming a serious problem in Japan. However, the real state of the environmental pollution in field is not examined adequately because no simple and rapid analytical methods for the determination of endocrine disruptors were reported. The determination of endocrine disruptors is usually determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The procedure of GC-MS for the determination of endocrine disruptors is time-consuming and needs a very skilled technique. As a result, urgent needs have been developed for potable, simple and rapid analytical methods for the detection and measurement of endocrine disruptors in environmental field. In this project, a portable and handy-type SPR sensor was developed by using a line CCD for detection of reflected light of the sensor. The dimension of the developed SRR sensor was about 8 cm x 6 cm x 4.8 cm. The weight of the sensor was less than 1 kg. A new light interface between the prism and the sensor chip was developed by using a plasticized PVC film, which was prepared from dibutylphthalate and tricrediyl phosphate at the weight ratio of 1 : 1. The refractive index of the prepared PVC film was 1.561. This film has the same refractive index as of the conventional mating oil. A sensor chip for the portable SPR sensor was newly developed. The sensor chips was cylidrical cuvette with 2 cm-hight, and a thin gold film on the glass was attached at the end of the cuvette. The matching film, which was very sticky to the sensor chip, was suitable for attaching on the portable SPR sensor. The developed SPR sensor was successfully applied to the determination of 2,4-dichlorophenol down to 0.1 ppm level
