| Research Abstract |
本研究では、σ→2γの逆過程をPrimakov効果を用いて測定することを目的とする。σ中間子探索に当たり、これまで主として、ガンマ線検出器の設計・制作・性能試験を行ってきた。これは、主に、σ→π0π0過程を調べるための準備である。本年度は、前方用PWOクリスタル200本を導入し、これら全てのクリスタルの基本的性能を調べた。
SPring8レーザー電子光ビームによる実験は、現在試験運転の段階にあり、平成13年の夏から共同利用実験の公募が行われることが現段階でほぼ確定したので、本研究のためのビームによる実験はそれ以降となる見通しである。そこで、当初の計画を若干変更し、試験運転の段階でできるその他の準備を平行して進めた。具体的には、このPrimakov効果を用いたσ中間子探索にひきつづき行う予定の後方ガンマ線検出器によるσ→π0π0過程の測定に関する準備研究である。
後方用ガンマ線検出器は、Pb/SCIFIという所謂サンプリング検出器てあるが、広い立体角を覆う目的で導入した。30〜100度までをカバーする大立体角電磁カロリメータである。252本のPb/SCIFIのブロックで構成される。π0によるエネルギー校正も終了し、既に、π0およびηのピークも確認され、π0π0のスペクトルも試験的に得られている。これは、前方PWOクリスタルによるπ0π0測定と相補的な実験である。
前方用PWOガンマ線検出器の性能は、前年度の報告通りであるが、後方用ガンマ線検出器の2γに対する質量分解能は、現在のところ、π0に対して約14%であり、ηに対しては約10%である。
