| Research Abstract |
本課題は、イオンの加熱や流出過程が頻繁に生起しているにも拘わらず、従来十分な観測研究が実施されていない極冠域の電離圏上部において、EISCATレーダーを用いて観測を行い、それらの物理機構を解明することを目的としている。さらに、ロケット、人工衛星、極域全体をカバーする地上観測との共同観測研究を行い、高緯度電離圏における、この現象の果たしている役割を総合的に理解することも重要な目的である。
2000年11月25日から12月4日にわたり宇宙研ロケット実験に呼応して、EISCATによる特別実験、SuperDARN観測および光学観測などによるキャンペーンを実施した。この期間中においては、ESRの2機のレーダーを6.4秒で切り替えて用いた。第1アンテナは主に極方向を観測し、カスプの同定に有益な情報を与えるとともに、高電子密度領域の移動現象(Flux Transfer EventやPoleward Moving Aurora Formと関連づけられる)を観測した。第2アンテナは磁力線方向のイオンの加熱や流出過程を観測した。さらにEISCAT VHFレーダーも同時に用いて、イオンの温度異方性現象の観測も試みた。
2000年11月27日において、昼側カスプ周辺を観測していると考えられる時間帯にイオン流出に伴うイオン温度異方性が観測された。このイオン温度異方性は、電子密度の増大及び、電子温度の等方的上昇を伴っており、夏に同様の方式で行われた実験による結果と一致している。さらに、IS理論では説明できない異常な強度のISスペクトルも同時刻に高い頻度で、発生していた。また、イオン温度異方性と同時刻に約50mV/mの強い電離圏電場が観測された。今後、昼側カスプ周辺で生じるイオン流出に伴うイオン温度異方性と、それに関連する物理量との関係について調べていく。
