Research Abstract |
Orientation control, photoreactivity, and dispersibility in polymer matrix of photo-functional organic-inorganic hybrid were investigated. K4Nb6O17 intercalated with several kinds of viologen dications, and montmorillonite intercalated with stilbazolium ions were studied as a model material in order to make a new hybrid layered material. Results 1. A fine plate-like K4Nb6O17 powder, which is desirable for the host material, was successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method. 2. A dense aggregation of stilbazolium ions among the interlayers of montmorillonite was confirmed by an emission spectroscopy. These hybrid particles could be dispersed in silica matrix with a preferred orientation. The orientation of the guest molecules in the interlayers was confirmed by a polarized UV-Vis. spectroscopy. 3. Intercalation behaviors of several kinds of viologen ions were compared by chaniging the length of the alkyl groups. Good photoreactivities were confirmed in the case of the viologen - K4Nb6O17 hybrids with shorter alkyl groups. 4. In order to improve the photo-reactivity of the hybrid with longer alkylchains, it was confirmed that one of the alkyl group of the viologens should be change to a shorter alkyl group such as methyl. 5. An optically transparent magadiite-silica monolithic hybrid was synthesized by the chemical treatment of magadiite particle and the following sol-gel processing. 6. Basic research on an electrophoretic deposition of the prepared organic-inorganic hybrid was carried out, and a well oriented hybrid films were synthesized on an electrode.
