Research Abstract

Our study for three years has been to discuss with American groups based on the data and calculation taken until that time. The meetings were held at Radiation Effects Research Foundation in Hiroshima in December 2000 and in March 2001.In June 2001 we had a meeting at Cleveland. There Americans proposed to finish until March 2002.However, our side proposed that we need more discussion to get agreements. Dr. Ruehm Germany presented CI-36 data first and showed that these data agree with DS86 at 1 Km slant range.
On 1st of March 2002 we had a meeting at SAIC in La Jolla near San Diego. Members are from Ministry of Health and Labor Japan, DOE US. Scientists are Drs. Kaul, Egbert, Christy, Santoro and Straume. From Japanese side, Drs. Hasai and Hoshi attended. Dr. Fujita RERF joined also. Dr. Young presented calculations of US side and discussed base on this. In conclusion, they raised 20m up the burst heght (fireball point) while the yield was kept as 15 Kt TNT. The calculated doses are the same as DS86 more that 1 Km slant range. Other points are as follows : 1.CI yield near ground zero are still lower than DS02, which is new calculation. 2.Eu data are agree with DS02 near ground zero however are higher at 1 Km. 3.Co-60 data are almost agreed. 4.P-32 data are a little bit higher than DS02.5.Cu-64 data are not contradicted with DS02.6.TLD data are not changed by DS02 or a little bit low at ground zero.
We discussed based on his presentation. Los Alamos is in charge of the source termcalculation ; however, they do not accept the change of the source term as proposed by Hoshi. If Los Alamos do not change the source in Hiroshima 20 m elevation of the epiceter will brought to best fit for the data. However we cannot verify it will be the final correct result. We are now performing intercomparison measurements between CI and Eu measurements by all of the participans related to measurements. We should wait for its results to find true reasons
