Research Abstract |
High-pressure van der Waals compounds show many fundamental properties to understanding material science. Here, we have for the first time succeeded to determine elastic properties (sound velocities and 3 elastic constants) of solid Ar at pressures up to 70 GPa ; now, in printing on U.S.Physical Review Letters. Furthermore, we have successfully synthesized a single-crystal Ar hydrates in a diamond anvil high-pressure cell. This material is a typical van der Waals compound. We measured Raman and Brillouin scatterings, and determined the structure II type hydrate and elastic properties, respectively. These results will be presented, as the invited lecture, on International Conference on High Pressure Science and Technology on July, 2001 at Beijing, China.
