| Research Abstract |
Subjects consisted of 20 female patients with bulimia nervosa (BN), 9 patients (6 were male) with social anxiety disorder (SAD) and 20 controls (6 were male). All were provided written informed consent. There were no significant differences in age or Body Mass Index among these groups. There were no significant differences in lymphocyte subsets such as CD4/CD8 ratio among these three groups. However, lymphocyte proliferative response with PHA/control ratio (Stimulation Index; SI) in BN patients was significantly lower than that in control women. SI was also significantly related with Beck's Depression Inventory score(r=-.56, p=.001), Trait subscale of State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (rs=-.58, p<.001), Emotion subscale of Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (r=-.58, p<.001). In addition, lower SI in BN patients (N=9) significantly improved according to progress of treatment. SI in SAD patients were also significantly lower than that in C group (87±35 vs. 328±269, t=3.9, p=.001).
