Research Abstract |
Metastasis of the digestive cancer is very important for prognosis of the disease. In particular, the improvement of hepatic metastasis is urgently needed. However the very small metastatic lesion in the liver has been able to detect by medical imaging modalities, if smaller size of lesion is detectable, treatment effect will improve. If invisible size of hepatic metastasis is detected, complete remission will be given after chemotherapy using anti-angiogenetic drugs or anti-cancer drugs. Aim of this research is the detection of invisible metastatic lesion in the liver by detecting the blood flow change in the liver due to angiogenesis using positron emission tomography. As results, Increase in arterial blood flow and decrease in portal blood flow were detected in the liver with metastasis using animal model. Hepatic blood flow was measured in patients with advanced colorectal cancer using H_2^<15>O bolus injection dynamic positron emission tomography study as control. Hepatic blood flow was measured in patients with colorectal hepatic metastasis using H_2^<15>O bolus injection dynamic positron emission tomography study. And, increase in arterial blood flow and decrease in portal blood flow were detected in the liver. It was proved that early detection was possible by detecting the change of arterial and portal blood flow using positron emission tomography
