Research Abstract |
The chewing function is the most important function in all jaw functions, and it is possible to be maintained by harmony of stomatognathic system biomechanics. In this study, the data by measurement of tooth classification biting force, examination of the occlusal condition by dental prescale and the electromyographic activties of masseter and temporal muscles was recorded for the student of this faculty of dentistry as an evaluation of the stomatognathic system biomechanics. The chewing value was measured as an inspection of the chewing function, and sign of the TMD and existence of the experience of the symptom by the inquiry were investigated as the parameter which estimated the superfluous burden to the stomatognathic system. It was proven that the chewing function was higher, as the occlusion contact area is bigger. The chewing function was also higher, as the tooth classification biting force, biting force in centric occlusion or muscular activity are higher, the correlation is comparatively stronger between each other. It was shown that the biting force was bigge and the chewing function is also higher, as the occlusal contact condition and muscle function are more symmetrical. In the examinee of this study, almost half of the subjecs have the experience in sign and symptom of the TMD.But it was happy that biting force and chewing function did not lower in these subjecs. Though the dental prescale and electromyograms, etc.were the porameters which evaluated the stomatognathic system biomechanics, it was impossible to indicate numerical value for physiological range between TMD and nomal from the result of this study. However, it is considered that the most important chewing function of the jaw function was able to be evaluated analytically. Then the important sugestion for improving and maintaining the chewing function was given by this study.
