Research Abstract |
Resin-bonded bridge has now come to be a routine for missing teeth treatment. There are some aspects that lead resin-bonded bridge to be a failure, such as (1) Inadequate bond strength, (2) Inadequate design of metal retainer (3) Poor choice of metal alloy. Since the introduction of resin-bonded bridge, many researches have been done on metal alloys and their treatment. But an absolute abutment's design has not been established yet. In 1999, authors focused mainly on retainer design and luting material layer to know the proper preparation for the resin-bonded bridge, and modeled the exact preparation design of abutment tooth of retainer with or without "wing", "groove" and "isthmus" by using three dimensional finite element technique. As a result, the preparation design with wing on the missing tooth side and luted with PMMA-resin cement is superior on the durability of the resin-bonded bridge. From 2000 to 2001, this project has been proceeding by two methods. First, tooth abutment, periodontal membrane, alveolar bone and resin-bonded bridge have been modeled by three-dimension, and the effect of the absorption of the periodontal tissue on the stress distribution of the luting material has been evaluated. Secondarily, the effects of tooth mobility, abutment design parameters and the crack between tooth and retainer on the durability of the resin-bonded bridge have been analyzed by using two-dimensional model with the horizontal tooth mobility.
