Research Abstract |
We could realize the anticipated results through the process of this research project - "A Reinspection of Old Tungus Production Culture : From the Viewpoint of Technological and Natural Sciences". In researching the fundamental factors of the Ching Manchurian, Korean and Japanese cultures, it is indispensable to study the ancient Tungus culture and active study has been carried out using both historical documents and archaeological relics. However, such an approach merely in view of human science has its limitations. We therefore tried to conduct interdisciplinary reinspection of existing documents from the viewpoint of natural science as well as on-site investigations, while focusing on the production aspects of the ancient Tungus culture. In cooperation with overseas researchers, our approach was centred on the relationships between ancient Tungus culture and the great effects of nature on the formation of it. We could reexamined, through methods and knowledge based on natural science, its production system, distribution of goods, and environments (the volcanic activities of Mt. Haktousan [Mt. Changbaishan/Mt. Baegdusan], the ecology and characteristics of its life forms, endemic diseases, etc.), as well as its linguistic and mental cultures.
