Research Abstract	新第三紀-第四紀におけるヒマラヤの上昇テクトニクスと気候変動(モンスーン気候の変動史)との関係を解明する目的で以下の現地調査を中央ネパールで行なった。また、本研究計画全体のまとめと総括に向けて、2001年8月25日〜27日(月)に東京都立大学および大学セミナーハウス(八王子市)において討論会を行った。21件の成果発表があった。 1.Fission Track法およびK-Ar法による放射年代測定のために、カトマンドゥ北方Helambu-Langtang地域において、標高910mから5045mにわたる15地点において約5kgの花崗岩質岩あるいは泥質変成岩を系統的に採集した。また、南方のマハーバーラト山脈を横切って、標高1200mから2445mの7地点において約5kgの花崗岩質岩を採集した。現在測定準備を行っている。 2.カトマンドゥ北側のout-of-sequence thrustの存在をFission Track法放射年代測定によって明らかにする目的で、断層両側の岩石試料の3ケ所(計16ヶ)において採集し、周辺の詳細な地質調査を行った。現在測定準備を行っている。 3.Main Boundary Faultの活動年代を明らかにするために、K-Ar年代測定用の断層ガウジをカトマンドゥ南方の3ケ所で採集した。 4.古カトマンドゥ湖盆の盛衰とアクティブテクトニクスとの関係を明らかにすることを目的として、湖成層上限の追跡とその層相変化・変形、および盆地縁辺部の水系発達などの地形学的調査を行った。この結果、新期カトマンドゥ湖盆はゴカルナ層堆積期の終わり頃に最も拡大し、当時の湖水面は標高1430-1440m付近にあったと推定された。
