Research Abstract	平成12年度はLEPの運転の最後の年であり、ヒッグス粒子や超対称性粒子などの発見を目指して最高エネルギーの限界に挑戦するあらゆる手段がとられた。衝突エネルギーは以前の予測を遙かに上回り最高209GeVを記録し、主に205-207GeVのエネルギーでデータを収集した。OPAL測定器の運転は順調で年間を通して高い稼働率で最高エネルギーの電子・陽電子衝突データを収集した。東京大学が建設し運転を担当する鉛ガラス電磁カロリメターは高性能を安定に維持し質の高いデータを記録した。測定器の較正や、モンテカルロ・シミュレーションの整備も順調に進んでおり、これらのデータを基に物理解析を幅広く展開している。以下に主な成果をいくつかあげる。 (1)約4000のW粒子対生成事象を記録した。Wの質量や、WとZや光子との相互作用の精密測定はLEP2の重要課題の一つである。データの大幅な増加により、これらを今までにない精度で研究できる。 (2)標準理論から期待される各種の反応過程を幅広く調べた。新しいエネルギー領域でも標準理論は良く成り立っている。標準理論からの小さな「ずれ」を生むかもしれない各種の新物理の可能性に対して更に厳しい制限を得た。 (3)ヒッグス粒子の探索ではエネルギー増強により更に重いヒッグス粒子まで探索の範囲が広がった。OPALのデータだけからは明白は信号はみつからず、約110GeVより軽いヒッグスの可能性を棄却した。LEPの4つの実験の結果を合わせて感度をあげる努力が行われている。 (4)標準理論を超える理論として最も有力な候補である超対称性理論の予言する新粒子群を系統的に探索した。データの中にそれらの兆候は見つかってないが、理論に含まれる未知のパラメータについて厳しい制限を得た。これらの成果は国勢会議なので報告され、学術専門誌に発表している。
