Research Abstract |
This project has aimed to get wide and marvelous results in making new artificial upwelling structures and disclosing the current characteristics around the Okinawa shallow areas, having joint researches with a couple of the specific researches running in Okinawa. In this project, four other main projects have been joined, that are i) development of a ultra-power HF Ocean Raider, ii) developing a measuring and wide-broadcasting system of ocean current around the floating fishery boy, iii) developing a new structural analysis tools with free mesh finite element method, iv) developing a wide area wave observation system in the ocean around South islands of Japan. All of these projects have been succeeded in getting their final aims. In particular, this project has revealed the upwelling current around the self in Zanpa sea area of Okinawa. The main results obtained can be summarized as fellows : 1) The tidal current around the Zanpa cape sea is in the clockwise direction. 2) Clear thermoclines of the sea water temperature exist about 70m below from the sea surface. 3) On the self, the thermoclines oscillate in harmonic with the tidal current. 4) The upwelling flows around the Zanpa self can reach up to just below the sea surface. 5) From the results obtained here, it can be said that the structures proposed as the artificial upwelling producers can make well-developed upwelling around them.
