Research Abstract |
(1). The diets containing Japanese and proso millets protein and the whole grain lowered plasma total and LDL-cholesterol levels and increased output of bile acids into feces in rats. Further the diet of black Japanese millet protein suppressed serum levels of OVA-specific IgE. (2). Foxtail millets from lwate were discriminated from those from Hokkaido, Nagoya, China and Korea by AFLP procedure. (3). A new disease causing leaf blight on proso millet (Panicum miliaceum L. ) was found on all plants in a field of Karumai, Iwate in August, 2000. A species of Fusarium was isolated from many infected leaves. This fungus was found to be pathogenic on P. miliaceum by inoculation of plant and identified as F. roseum This is the first report of Fusarium disease on P. miliaceum in Japan. (4). In order to clear whether the variants of seed prolamin in foxtail millet are new type, they were crossed with the strains having standard prolamin bands. Prolamin of seeds obtained by the hybridization are under investigation, but the hybrids are not obtained until now. When amino acid composition of seed proteins in soybean which accumulated several mutant genes lacking subunit of globulin was analyzed, they showed increase of arginine content about two time. (5). A procedure to remove effectively weeds in Japanese millet field by machine was found. (6). A new millet bread and a Japanese pastry were developed and commercialized in cooperation with community food companies.
