Research Abstract	約180種からなるチビアシナガバチ属(Ropalidia)の系統関係解析、社会性進化ならびに多様性創出機構を解明する基礎となる分類学的研究ならびに解析のための基礎データと試料の収集を中心に以下の研究を行った。 (1)チビアシナガバチ属の分化の中心の一つあるニューギニアの種について、これまでに記載された種のタイプ標本の精査を行い、シノニム関係をはじめとして、分類学的整理を行った。 (2)スイス人分類学者de Saussureは19世紀に多くのチビアシナガバチ属の種を記載したが、これまでほとんど調べられてこなかったこれらのタイプ標本を調べ、分類学的再検討を加え、東南アジア、オセアニアならびにマダガスカルの種の分類学的整理を行った。 (3)チビアシナガバチ類は外被を欠く巣と外被を有する巣を造る種を1属中にもつ唯一の社会性カリバチであるが、まず、外被を欠く巣について詳細な巣構造の比較を進め、系統解析の基礎資料を整えるとともに、巣構造の比較形態について論文としてまとめている。 (4)オーストラリア産分巣種Ropalidia romandiのコロニーにおける女王・ワーカー間の外部形態カスト分化について12コロニーを用いて解析を行った。その結果、本種ならびに分巣をするチビアシナガバチでは、外部形態上のカスト分化がサイズに依存しないものである可能性が示唆された。 (5)系統関係解析に用いる形質状態マトリックスを整えるとともに、DNA塩基配列データを得るための試料を収集とCOI領域の塩基配列読み取りを行った。
