| Research Abstract |
この領域研究では,超高圧科学のあらゆる手法を用いて、地球の下部マントルと核の条件を実現し、その物性を明らかにし、地球内部における物質の状態を実験的に再現することを目的とした。また、野外調査と採取試料の精密分析によって、試料から地球内部の物質の移動・循環の時間変化を読む研究を行ってきた。さらに、マグマの発生を促しマントル対流を促進し大気や海洋の起源と進化の理解に不可欠な水などの揮発性物質の地球内部での挙動についても解明してきた。
この研究においては、特定領域研究の3年間の成果を総括すると共に、今後の高圧地球科学分野の技術開発と研究の展望を議論するために、国際シンポジウムを開催した。このシンポジウムでは、特定領域研究メンバーのみならず、国内外の関係者に参加を要請し、高圧鉱物物理学、高圧地球科学将来の展望、放射光の地球科学と材料科学への新しい適用方法や超高圧技術開発の将来展望を議論した。開催した国際シンポジウムの詳細は以下のようである。
