| Research Abstract |
チェルノブイリ原発事故後その周辺で激増している小児甲状腺がんについて、放射線被曝の影響の有無を解明することを研究目的とする。とくに、国際機関との共同プロジェクトとして行う小児甲状腺がんの症例対照研究、長期にわたる特定被ばく集団の追跡調査、および国際甲状腺組織登録バンク確立へ参画した。それぞれの疫学調査にリンクした各種甲状腺がん関連遺伝子の解析を行い以下の成果を得た。
1.甲状腺細胞特異的な放射線応答の存在を明らかにするために、種々の条件下でのヒト甲状腺細胞培養を行い、細胞内情報伝達系の特徴および甲状腺がん細胞に特徴的な遺伝子変化を明らかにした。
2.各種共同研究を推進させ、一部の遺伝子解析を行った。とくに先天性の内分泌異常の発育障害関連遺伝子異常と臨床的特徴との相関について調査した。
3.現地研究機関と合同調査を行い、チェルノブイリ事故後周辺地域において結核が急増しており、事故後の過度の「放射線恐怖症」がその一因として考えられることを示した。
4.ロシア連邦ブリヤンスク州西部での甲状腺検診対象者における体内Cs-137の被ばく線量評価を行った。
5.独立国家チェルノブイリ腫瘍組織バンクの立ち上げに参画し、甲状腺がん組織収集、管理保管、およびDNA、RNAの遺伝子抽出を指導し、今後の生体試料有効活用のために尽力した。
