Research Abstract	2002年7月に全国規模のトポロジーシンポジウムを開催して、位相幾何の諸分野における各グループの研究成果を発表し、研究の交流を行った。葉層構造論、写像類群、3次元多様体論、一般位相、代数的トポロジー、特異点理論、ゲージ理論等における最新の研究成果が発表された。分野を特定した研究集会については以下のように開催し、研究の交流を行った。6月に「松江位相数学国際会議兼第2回日本メキシコ位相数学合同シンポジウム」、9月に「葉層構造の幾何学」、「空間の代数的モデルとその展望」、「リーマン面に関連する位相幾何学」、10月に「graphと3次元多様体の研究」、「ホモトピー論シンポジウム」、「結び目と多様体の幾何と代数」、11月に「変換群論シンポジウム」、「トポロジーとコンピュータ」、12月に「実・複素特異点のトポロジーII」、「自己ホモトピー集合とその周辺」、「結び目のトポロジーV」、「General Topology Symposium」、1月に「4次元トポロジーの研究」、「東北結び目セミナー」、「接触構造、特異点と関連分野」、2月に「第10回日韓トポロジーセミナー」。これらの研究集会では、最新の研究成果が発表されるとともに、研究者の間で研究成果を整理するとともに若手研究者を育成するためのミニコースも行われた。また8月に開催された、国際研究集会「力学系理論の新しい方向」開催に協力した。これらの研究を進めるために、初年度購入したマイクロサーバーを維持し、研究者間のネットワークに役立てた。広い範囲の数学との連携を探るために、Encounter with Mathematicsの集会を6月に「複素力学系 --単純な関数のiterationが生み出す多彩な世界」、10月に「双曲幾何」、12月に「Weil予想」をテーマに開催し、異なる分野の研究者、大学院生等の間の交流を図った。
